Example of a ‘Witches Ladder.’ Several examples of these have been found in old houses in Britain, often using cord or rope with feathers woven in, and used for ill intent. One famous example was found in Wellington, Somerset in 1887; workers found a secret room in a house which had ‘evidently been used for witchcraft’. Old women in the area confirmed that the fetish was common, and used alongside an onion or candle with pins in. Nowadays the Witches Ladder is also used for healing purposes, or as a sort of personal charm for the witch which can be added to over time.
